Victor Carrasco says : “I have always been very interested in the practice of ‘reading the air,’ which is one of the behaviors peculiar to Japanese people. Behave according to the atmosphere and circumstance of the space: become enveloped by it or wait patiently until you do.
I started designing to create a simple bench which embodied that sense of gentle encapsulation, suitable for Japanese people who read such an atmosphere. The result is a minimal design without ornament that fits into any space, as if the product itself reads the air. The bench, wrapped in textile, has become a beautiful and timeless silhouette, just like Japanese ‘maki sushi’”
デザイナー Victor Carrascoの想い
私はいつも、日本人特有の振る舞いのひとつである『空気を読む』という行動に大変興味を持っています。その場の雰囲気、状況に応じて振舞うこと。時にはそれは、多くを語らず、そっと包み込むようにしてやり過ごしたり、じっと待っていたりするのでしょう。
「MAKI」は、そんな空気を読む日本人に相応しく、やさしく包み込むシンプルなベンチでありたいとデザインを始めました。
たどり着いた先は、プロダクト自体が空気を読むかのごとく、どんな空間にも馴染む一切の装飾を削ぎ落したシンプルなデザイン。
継ぎがない一枚の張地で包み込まれたベンチは、まるで、日本の『巻き寿司』のように美しく、タイムレスなベンチとなりました。（Ｗ1380のスタンダードサイズのみ）
